Home polysomnography can be type 2 or type 3. Type 2 polysomnography is similar to that performed in the laboratory, but without continuous monitoring by a technician during the night. Type 3 monitors fewer variables and can be assembled by the patient himself.

Check out more information about each type of exam below.

Type 2 Home Polysomnography

The Sleep Institute offers two options for taking this exam:

  • Baseline home polysomnography with technician visit

The polysomnography technician comes to the patient’s residence to prepare the exam and returns the next day to remove the equipment. In this format, a travel fee is charged.

  • Baseline home polysomnography without technician visit

The patient comes to the Sleep Institute to prepare the exam, which includes the placement of sensors and guidelines. After finishing, return to your home for the exam. In this option, it is necessary to return to the Sleep Institute the next day, at the agreed time, to deliver the equipment.

Type 3 Home Polysomnography

Type 3 polysomnography is a home exam indicated for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.

It is performed using a small device with few accessories: the cannula on the nose to assess breathing and snoring, the sensor on the finger to check the oxygen level and heart rate, and the band on the chest to record the movements of breathing.

As the device monitors fewer variables than the complete polysomnography, the test can be set up by the patient, in a simple way.

After completing the exam, the data is recorded and a report will be performed by a sleep specialist.

We sent the equipment through a carrier to the patient’s home on the day of the examination and removed it the next day without contact with the patient.
