Bruxism

Publicado em 29/01/2020

The symptoms of sleep bruxism include clenching, hitting or grinding one’s teeth. It is not always possible to determine the exact causes of this issue, although periods of emotional stress may aggravate the symptoms. Control of bruxism symptoms depends on the patient’s complaints (pain, aesthetics) and general condition of the teeth. It is often recommended to use a mouth guard to protect the teeth while sleeping, which will depend on whether or not the patient snores and has sleep apnea, in which cases a different device may be advised. Note that everyone clenches or occasionally grinds their teeth while sleeping during their lives, but it is when it becomes too frequent and intense, causing pain in the head, ear and face, that patients normally go to an expert physician to control the problem.
